Journey of life is never a straight line and I think everyone would agree with me.So many stages we go through right from the childhood to the old age. So many expectations aspirations at each and every stage. When we try to plot a graph of age against mental health, we walk up the curve, we go to the top as we achieve something we feel good about ourselves and we start the journey downwards on the curve when we meet with unexpected happenings not receiving enough in relationship in your job in your professional life etc waxing and waning of the curve keeps on happening as we keep living;going ahead in our life journey. And that is the reason we say that” Mental health is not your destination but it is the journey”
I am really fascinated by this journey.Every time when you start on the curve downward you realize isn’t it one more cognitive distortions that you are dealing
with? The moment you realise that you need to change your thinking -your emotions-your behaviour…. you start coming to the “New Normal” designed in your own way. If you cannot do it alone you can always get the help of a professional. But the moment of realisation is important.
While going through this process of realisation a moment comes in our life when we become little philosophical….
You try to search for your roots. Who are you, why you are the way you are I!…why are you having this problems & so on…
Such questions haunts you and makes you think about going to your roots. It is likely that there are plenty of stories about the people who came before you that you don’t know and you won’t know those stories unless you ask or talk with people around you. Some deeds some qualities of your ancestors , how they solved their problems how did they react in a particular circumstances and stories about this may help you understand yourself better. Connecting to your roots me meri bil some stories about your and sister family you might find some characteristics similar to you and may give you inside on your today’s problems it may enlighten you to understand what new opportunities you have which your ancestors or loved ones never had. What are the values your people had which you are finding important even today like honesty, bravery, hospitality…. it could be anything. Knowing about all this at that particular time may help you regain your mental health. which values you are already emphasising upon as a person and trying to have in your next generation knowingly or unknowingly.
As we reach to our roots that helps us in anchoring ourselves, bring in resilience and progress towards acceptance.
Helps to regain our mental health.
